Sea Survival and First Aid Training

Acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to properly execute actions aimed at preserving individuals’ physical integrity, mastering the environment, and performing emergency procedures.

Professional Objectives

Learning Objectives of the Training

At the end of the training, the trainees will be able to:

  • Understand the risks in aquatic and maritime environments;
  • Be familiar with maritime safety equipment;
  • Know the methods and procedures for sea rescue;
  • Assess their aquatic abilities
  • Know how to use sea survival equipment
  • Know how to use pyrotechnic signaling devices;
  • Know how to recover a man overboard;
  • Know how to communicate with maritime and medical assistance organizations;
  • Know how to perform emergency procedures.

Prerequisites:

  • Ability to swim;
  • Medical fitness;
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
Training Content
The training is divided into two modules, covering knowledge and practical skills: Sea Survival Module (1 day) First Aid Module (1 day) Knowledge:
  • Fire safety, precautions to take...;
  • Life raft, packing, deployment, and onboard equipment set;
  • SAR: Method and organization;
  • Maintenance of safety equipment;
  • Hypothermia;
  • Communication equipment;
  • Regulations related to safety;
  • Understand the rescue chain;
  • Accident case studies and lessons learned.
Practical Skills:
  • Protect a victim, immobilize them, and extract them from the environment;
  • Perform an assessment of vital signs;
  • Analyze and assess the situation;
  • Handle a life-threatening emergency, including an unconscious victim, respiratory arrest, or hemorrhage;
  • Care for a victim experiencing discomfort, burns, drowning, or hypothermia;
  • Immobilize and stabilize a victim with trauma to the lower limbs, upper limbs, spine, or head.
Training Completion Requirements

This training does not include a final exam and results in the issuance of a certificate of completion.

Parcours pédagogiques

La pédagogie mobilisée sur ce parcours de professionnalisation repose sur des pédagogies actives avec des conférences, et des mises en situations professionnelles en lien avec la profession du stagiaire. La progression pédagogique est réalisée en approche par compétence avec un suivi individuelle au travers d’une fiche.
Training Duration and Location

The training lasts two days, totaling 14 hours, from 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM and from 1:30 PM to 5:00 PM.
The training takes place in the pool at the COMEX SAS technical facility.

Number of Participants

The man overboard training session can accommodate up to 12 trainees, with a minimum of 6 trainees.

Instructors

The educational team consists of instructors who are professionals in aquatic rescue.
